Types of Funds

Thank you for considering a financial contribution to First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City (FPC). The fulfillment of the church’s mission is financially supported through four specific types of funding.

The General Fund (operating) underwrites the ministries, operation, and maintenance of our local congregation. Both routine and critical needs are included:

  • staff salaries,
  • ministries serving children, youth, and adults,
  • mission,
  • worship,
  • building costs,
  • insurance, and
  • per capita and other denominational giving. These monies are used to support the mission and ministries of the larger church through the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly.

Memorial Gifts are typically designated by family members and used by Session in a manner that provides both a lasting memory of the person and a benefit to the Church. This can be noted in the Memo line or please Contact Us for more information.

Restricted Gifts are for special purposes such as church programs, capital projects, and missions. Those are typically noted in the fund dropdown.

The Endowment Fund empowers persons who wish to make gifts that provide for the long-term future of the church. The principal of these gifts is held in perpetuity with the investment income made available for ministries of the church. Prior to making an endowment contribution, you are urged to meet with the chairperson of the church’s Endowment and Memorials Committee or with the Rev. Dr. Sam Massey.
