John spent morning at UIHC seeing doctors. Pathologist's report: it was sarcoma & they got it all, surrounding tissue clear. September will have CT to check on left lung where there's something different. Then will determine what to do IF anything. Told him he looked good keep doing what he's doing. Thanks again for prayers, thoughts, cards, calls. Really appreciate you all.

I have wrestled since Saturday with how to frame the following as prayer requests. Here goes:
Please pray for the people of Charlottesville whose long history of implicit, quiet, seemingly insurmountable racism has finally been laid on the table. May God give the region the true healing needed for very old, deep and infected wounds. May their circumstances cause us all to weigh our hearts and our social structures for evidence of persistent racism.
May God grant restoration and renewal of our national covenant and bring into judgment all those who ignore Jesus\\' mandates of justice, mercy and trust, no matter what religion they boast. May we stand up for what the God of love says is right so that we not be complicit with aggressive wrong.
May God silence those who call for \\"\\'peace, peace\\' where is no peace,\\" and multiply the voices of those who cry out for fruitful actions worthy of penitent hearts.
May God give us a spirit of courage that steals away our timidity and reminds us that loving neighbors is not the same as concurring with their errors or abstaining from correcting them.
May God grant to all of us, including me, the strength to confess sin and do the hard work of prayerful reconciliation.
May God grant us the vision of a city set on a hill and save our people and Constitution from intentional harm or foolish neglect. And may God bless the families and friends of those martyred or who soon will be martyred, at home or abroad, in defense of human rights and liberty.
May God help us as Presbyterians to remember that the truth sets us free, and that truth and goodness are inextricably linked in Christian ethics.
May God give us the wisdom to discern during the difficult days to come that the opposite of God\\'s love is apathy; God\\'s rage and judgment are merely the shadowside of love.
May God fulfill those prayers that honor God\\'s will, and ignore the rest. In Jesus\\' name I pray. Amen.

Thank you for your prayers for the past few weeks. Mom passed yesterday at 5:15pm. It was a very peaceful passing for which I am grateful. Dad is doing pretty well. They had been married for 71 years and constantly together for the last 30+ years of retirement. As Dad said last night, "She was my best friend." The next few days/weeks are going to be rough for him.
I am truly grateful for the wonderful staff at Highland Ridge Care Center. They have/are taking such good care of Dad and me. My sister, Janet arrived late last night.
We would all appreciate your continued prayers in the days to come. Dad continues to be in hospice care at this time.
